Smoothie Dos and Don'ts

Smoothies are a great way to get your daily nutrients, but there are some things you should know! Read on to learn all my dos and don'ts when it comes to smoothies!

  • Go Green! to add vitamins, minerals and bioactives which give your body energy. The green smoothie with an added wheatgrass shot offers 70% DRI for iron (10% in fruit smoothie, 15% in store bought) 40% DRI calcium (4% fruit smoothie, 6%store bought) important for building healthy bones and for fortifying a fit person’s blood, especially for women.

  • Adding greens to smoothies also reduces overall sugars typically found in fruit only options. The Green smoothie saves 100-400% sugars found in fruit based drinks.

  • Adding greens to smoothies also adds fiber, important for gut fitness! You need about 27-40 grams daily, the green smoothie has 10 grams, fruit 6 grams and store bought 1 gram.)

  • Add plant based protein powders vs. nut butters for high quality protein to maximize essential amino acids (EAA) which enhance performance and recovery and reduce total fat which is often high in nut butter based options. The Green Smoothie has less than nearly half the fat calories of the fruit nut butter based smoothie and more than double the amount of protein per serving. If you need a BCAA boost for post workout muscle repair and recovery, see Lisa Loves to order her favorite pick with a discount!

  • Avoid unnatural and artificial sweeteners, and even trendy natural sugars such as agave, which is not only 1 ½ times sweeter than sugar and high in fructose but also adds extra empty calories. Rely on the natural sugars contributed by fresh organic fruits. For every 4 grams of sugar is a tsp. of sugar. Lisa Loves all natural & 0 sugar and calorie monkfruit and allulose!

  • All about the “base” Go for Good Karma Flax Milk, the Legally Lean® Green Good Karma Flax milk based smoothie offers a whopping 181% of your daily DVI for essential omega 3 fats, ESSENTIAL and hard to get enough of unless you consume fish or large quantities of some types of nuts like walnuts, almonds and pistachios which of course adds excess fats.
